More About SFRAWD

The Society for Rights of All Women with Disabilities (SRAWD) is a women led non-profit organization working to advance the rights, dignity, and inclusion of differently abled women, mothers of children with special needs, and children with special needs. While the organization was formally registered in 2014, its grassroots initiatives and unwavering commitment to disability rights began as early as 2000. SRAWD currently works across all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu, with a focus on both urban and rural populations. Over the years, the organization has impacted the lives of more than 50,000 individuals through various interventions.

Why Our Work Matters

In Tamil Nadu, differently abled women and mothers of children with disabilities face multiple layers of discrimination based on gender, disability, and poverty. Many are denied education, excluded from workforces, lack access to assistive devices, and receive little to no healthcare support. Mothers of children with special needs often carry a double burden, they not only face social isolation but are also forced to become full-time caregivers without adequate emotional, social, or financial support. SFRAWD strongly believes that when women with disabilities and mothers of differently abled children are empowered, they become catalysts of change in their families, communities, and society. Their strength, resilience, and voices must be recognized and supported not silenced.
